Group Tutorial/ Revised Essay Proposal…

I'd been worried about this day for the whole of summer, but I've actually left it with quite a weight off my mind,shoulders, the lot. I've had to remind myself that i had't just submitted my final dissertation, it was the first tutorial of the semester. - but it was a glorious feeling for a short time nonetheless!

My presentation contents and research topics were currently still pretty vague without committing to one direction or another, so the quotes and academic but based on feedback from peers and Fred i have a platform to work/research from.

Practical Response Proposal (initial draft)

Tutor Notes

A few other suggestions for research stemming  from my proposal include;

 • History of Masks/Wrestling/Luchador Masks/Hidden identity/Anonymity

• Circus Culture/Old fashioned strongmen/ Origins of wrestling

• Masculintiy & Homosexuality

• Development of fragile male ego via popular culture

• Development of homo-erotic aesthetic

• The 'Six pack & the Bicep

• The Relationship between feminine empowerment and male representation

I had explained that i was possibly going to explore the changing ( or not changing) depictions of masculinity within feature films over the last century, but was advised to restrict to the world of pro wrestling/body building/MMA, anything that would involve a guy/girl to be judged on their appearance in next-to no clothing.

The discussion on how the physical embodiment of being a (sports entertainer) 'man' has gone in a circle since the 20's ( no nonsense, straight laced) to the late 70's - mid 90's ( ridulouse camp characters and costumes took centre stage over the actual physical sport) and now back again with the relatively recent arrival of MMA/UFC or' cage fighting'; a phrase that apparently everyone in the business despises.

WIth that in mind, i know have a the more focused beginnings of an essay question, and a clearer direction to head in.
